BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) -
The Bayonne Bridge is closing as work continues to raise the span that
links Bayonne with Staten Island, New York.
Traffic will be turned away from 11:59 p.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
Crews will deliver and position strengthening plates and continue to erect the bridge's towers during the shutdown.
Motorists should consider using the Goethals Bridge.
The closure is part of a $1.3 billion project to raise the roadway to give larger ships access to New York and New Jersey ports. The new bridge roadway will have wider lanes and a median.
